Frederick Deeming was arrested for murdering his second wife in Melbourne in 1892. It then transpired that he had also murdered his first wife in Rainhill, Liverpool, in 1891.
Following his conviction in Melbourne there were reports in the newspapers that he had confessed to the last two Whitechapel murders.
